Feel Better About Money

Presenters:
Holly Mead and Lucy Andrews.
What areas and topics does Feel Better About Money cover?
Holly: So far, we’ve been pretty Budget focused, but we’re now looking forward to getting stuck into some other areas that we know are really important to people. Things like debt and credit cards, the hurdles when you’re saving for a first home, and how to get started investing. We want to empower people to feel better about all aspects of their money.
What were the aims and motivations behind launching this podcast?
Lucy: To knock Diary of a CEO off the top of the podcast charts…
Holly: We’re living in an age where people want to consume content in different ways and us lowly newspaper hacks need to adapt. Unlike a newspaper, you can listen to a podcast on your run, on your commute, in the shower… we want talking about money to be informative as well as fun.
Who are your target audience and how will this podcast benefit them?
Holly: Everyone! Money affects us all and it’s not just about our pensions and mortgages, it’s all bundled up in our friendships and families and pets, so we should all be talking about it - openly, fearlessly, confidently.
Are there any specific topics you would like to hear from PRs about?
Lucy: We’ll be covering a large range of personal finance topics - pensions, savings, mortgages, renting, credit cards, side hustles… you name it, we’ll be talking about it!
What else can PRs do to help you?
Lucy: We’re always on the lookout for great guests and new data.
What are your thoughts on last week’s Budget?
Holly: It was a big one! We were incredibly grateful to our podcast guests, Tom McPhail from the lang cat and Chris Etherington from RSM, for helping me pick through the details and try and make sense of it all the next day.
What financial topics do you expect to dominate the rest of the year?
Holly: The new US president, interest rates, mortgage rates… there isn’t much year left, but there’s still a lot to come.
Lucy: The aftermath of the Budget and how the changes will affect your finances.
You’re a couple of episodes in now… what’s been the most enjoyable aspect of the podcast so far? What’s been the most challenging part?
Holly: The most challenging part is having to work with Lucy… No, I’m joking. We have had so much fun creating this podcast and it’s very exciting that it’s now out there.
Lucy: Oi! The most enjoyable part has been seeing the podcast evolve into what it is now… and we’re excited to see it grow!
Describe your podcast in three words:
Lucy: Straight-talking, informative, fun.
Holly: What she said.
Has anyone on your team been recognised at any awards recently?
Holly: The team was lucky enough to scoop a number of gongs at the Headlinemoney Awards this year, including Money Editor Johanna Noble, who won Commentator of the Year.
Finally, do either of you have any hidden talents/party tricks?
Lucy: I can do a cartwheel after a few shots.
Holly: It’s hard to compete with that…
