Job-title & media organisation:

Reporter at The Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

What are the main beats you cover?

Fossil fuels and finance.

What made you become a financial journalist?

I had an interest in writing about the less visible levers of power in society.

What was your reaction to making the ESG Story of the Year shortlist?

I was delighted, especially when I saw the other brilliant stories on the shortlist.

Tell us more about your nominated story and how you came to write it:

I was hired by The Bureau of Investigative Journalism to investigate financial institutions and fossil fuels and they were keen to get a story out in time for COP. We decided to focus on lobbying for our first investigation because it demonstrates the disconnect between what the banks are saying in public and in private. Finding an email from the office of HSBC's Chief Executive, Noel Quinn, lobbying to water down climate targets provided us with the substance of the story, which we published on our site and in partnership with The Times on the second Monday of COP. So we just about got it out in time!

Who would you most like to interview about their views on ESG issues?

Tim Buckley, CEO of Vanguard.

Finally, if you were up for an award for any hobbies/activities outside of work, what would you be likely to win, and why?

I actually won an award for an unpublished crime novel I've written. It'd be great if I finally get that published and it went on to win a Dagger.
