Laura Fozard, External Communications Manager, Yorkshire Building Society

The main areas that I cover are:
Savings and financial resilience.
What was your reaction to making the shortlist?
Absolutely shocked and incredibly proud.
From your work so far, if you had to pick the campaign you are most proud of, what would it be, and why?
UK Savings Week – the idea was something that I came up with from a side of a desk discussion, which ended up with us convening with the Building Societies Association (BSA) and over 70 other mutuals, credit unions, consumers group and charities supporting.
UK Savings Week aims to get people engaged with saving, whether they are already savers, have no savings but could save a little, or may be unable to save right now but may be able to when times improve. I’m incredibly proud to have been part of the week’s foundations and can’t wait to see how it grows.
What made you become a financial PR?
I’ve worked for YBS all my career, from front line customer service roles, through to leadership, training and projects. My now teammate Linzi suggested I should apply for a vacant role in our PR team and use my knowledge of the business and the understanding of what customers really want to help us raise our profile externally. I’m so glad she did because I absolutely love it!
As a relatively new ‘rising star’ financial PR?, what were the challenges you faced in 2022?
Highlighting the need for financial resilience and encouraging people to save money at a time many admitted to choosing between eating and heating has been challenging and has needed a great deal of thought, planning and execution to deliver delicate messages.
Finally, if you were up for an award for any hobbies/activities outside of work, what would you be likely to win, and why?
Gosh, this is hard and suddenly wondering if I am the most beige person ever! I would probably be most likely to be up for World’s Biggest Disney fan – I am a huge fan of all things Disney from watching princess films with my daughter to Stars Wars with my husband. I’m also a sucker for anything Mickey-shaped and our house has several hidden Mickeys in the form of mirrors, plates and phone chargers (they have to be in hidden shape to get past my disapproving husband who isn’t as big a fan! He’s already in fear of what might return with us from our next trip to Florida in November!).
