Fixed Income – understanding the asset class

This session aims to demystify an asset class which is often seen as more complex, with a start from the basics, explaining what a bond is, why they are issued, who issues them and how the price/yield relationship works. It will also look to explain maturity and how inflation and interest rates impact the asset class. It will look at different types of bonds (corporate, government etc) and the roles they play.

Navigating change: three drivers for long-term investment positioning

Pat Sanderson, Head of UK Client Group and Sabrina Denis, Senior Portfolio Strategist, Janus Henderson Investors

This session will provide an overview of the UK landscape for active asset managers and the challenges and opportunities this presents followed by an overview of the macroeconomic drivers that are likely to shape markets in the coming decade.

This session will cover planning and advice as people move towards retirement, the options in retirement including drawdown, UFPLS and annuity, tax planning and the pension tax rules. There will be a look at sustainability of retirement income and interaction with other savings/income and death benefits and passing pensions to family.

The session will give a broad overview of financial markets, starting with their significance in the global economy and the distinction between economies and markets. It will cover major asset classes like stocks, bonds, commodities, and forex, as well as investment vehicles such as funds, investment trusts, ETFs, and trackers, highlighting the role of multi-asset funds and managed portfolio services.
