Tell us about Money Marketing, and the areas you cover?
Money Marketing is a news and features website and magazine for financial advisers in the UK. We cover all kinds of areas, but most specifically regulation, platforms, pensions, investments, protection, technology and advice firm updates.
We hear you have an important anniversary coming up, congratulations! How are you marking it?
Yes, we’re celebrating our 40th birthday in September. It coincides with the MM Awards, so I’m sure we’ll be marking it in some manner there and probably raising a few glasses! In the meantime, we’ve been publishing a series of articles by the ex-editors, looking back at their time at the helm and how the sector has changed.
What have been Money Marketing's biggest stories?
We’ve done some excellent long features already in 2025. I’m particularly proud of our April article on ongoing advice, which is a hot topic in the sector. We got a lot of interesting comments from a diverse range of experts, which really helped to illuminate the subject. The front cover illustration wasn’t too bad either!
Describe your target audience. How does your content benefit them?
Our target audience is largely independent financial advisors (IFAs). We try to anticipate their ‘pain points’ – those things that will empower them to do their jobs better and help their clients. This could be the latest regulations or policy changes and their implications, investment opportunities, technology they should be aware of… the list is almost endless!
How has the financial adviser market changed in the last 40 years?
In all kinds of ways. Ever since the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) in 2014, it has become an increasingly regulated and professionalised sector. That’s largely for the good and certainly better for clients, although it’s created its own challenges.
What are the current challenges for financial advisers?
Following on from my last answer, it’s certainly the increased regulatory burden. Advisers are now required to evidence their value far more, and this creates a lot of extra work and stress – something we’ve explored in our features.
Who is currently on the Money Marketing team?
Aside from me, there’s Dan Cooper (News Editor, also covering pensions and regulation), Lois Vallely (Chief Reporter, covering advice firms and platforms), Momodou Musa Touray (Senior Reporter, covering platforms), Darius McQuaid (Reporter, covering investments) and Amanda Newman Smith (Features Writer, covering all kinds of things). Kimberley Dondo covers all things digital, and Caitlin Jordan looks after our clients. Finally, there’s are wonderful production team (Katherine Willis, Nita Patel and Leon Parks) and too many great freelance writers to mention!
What is the best way to get in touch with your journalists?
Usually by email or LinkedIn, and they are usually happy to have a face-to-face chat over coffee or lunch.
When is your busiest period?
The busiest time is the end of the month (press day) and the middle of the week, so get in touch early if possible!
Are there any topics you would like to hear more from PRs about?
Any exclusive research or stories around the areas I mentioned above are always welcome.
What can PRs do to help your team?
Send us story ideas that really address the needs of our audience, or suggest good spokespeople that can help with background for features.
Any notable features you'd like to highlight?
Our feature on Tackling the Adviser Gap. We looked at some of the initiatives advice firms have launched to deal with this issue and encouraged more collaboration to solve the problem together. It’s certainly something we will be revisiting.
Tell us about the ongoing stories you expect to cover in 2025:
We’ll definitely be writing a lot more about pensions, the advice-guidance boundary and evolving technology. Regulation shows no sign of slowing down either.
What’s next for Money Marketing?
All kinds of things! We’re looking to refresh our website in the second half of 2025, adding new feature sections and targeting new audiences. It’s already been a hectic year…
Do you have any favourites venue for a team lunch/pint?
Box Park near East Croydon station is always worth a visit.
In a pub quiz, which round would your team win?
Zombie apocalypse movies (private joke!).
