This is Money were recognised for their relentless coverage of womens’ underpaid state pensions, taking home the very first Campaign of the Year accolade at last night’s Headlinemoney Awards held at The Brewery in central London, with judges praising the campaign for taking aim at a massive historical injustice.
In the other new categories introduced for the 2022 Headlinemoney Awards to showcase the diverse topics that now fall under a financial journalist’s remit, Polly Jean Harrison from The Fintech Times was commended as the inaugural Fintech Journalist of the Year and the FT’s Laurence Fletcher and Tommy Stubbington claimed the trophy for the first ESG Story of the Year award.
The illustrious Journalist of the Year trophy went to Ben Wilkinson, who was recognised for his 2021 work at Money Mail, including his story ‘Plague of the debt vultures’ which took home the prestigious Personal Finance Story of the Year prize.
The Headlinemoney Awards is a prestigious annual event which recognises the best in financial services media, both individual achievements and team efforts. More than 500 awards submissions were judged by more than a hundred professionals drawn from around the money media. The two-stage process includes detailed analysis of the shortlisted entries in virtual judging sessions to establish winners. The format means that journalists are truly judged by their peers from around financial services media.
Following an impressive 32 year career as a money writer and editor, the Mail’s Tony Hazell was given the prestigious Outstanding Achievement award, in recognition of his contribution to personal finance journalism and success fighting for the rights of consumers for over three decades.
Big B2B winners this year included Money Marketing, collecting trophies for B2B Title of the Year and Pensions Journalist of the Year (B2B), and FTAdviser, whose Ruby Hinchcliffe was named both Protection Journalist of the Year (B2B) and Mortgage Journalist of the Year (B2B). The overall B2B Journalist of the Year prize went to Corporate Adviser’s John Greenwood.
Which? Money landed the honour of winning Consumer Money Title of the Year, with judges praising the title’s investigations and strong stories filled with practical advice.
In the PR and Communications categories, interactive investor was named best in-house Press Team of the Year, and Fidelity (supported by Teamspirit) scooped the Thought Leadership Initiative of the Year trophy for their “Global Women & Money Study - breaking down financial barriers around the world” campaign.
Winners in the PR categories were determined by extensive polls of financial journalists carried out during Spring 2022.
The evening was hosted by comedian and actor Kerry Godliman.
